Here are some design inspirational links from around the world.
- Hyperkit is a small London based multi-faceted design studio, run by Tim Balaam and Kate Sclater. Though they're studio is small, their creativity and execution are not. The simplicity of their work is very appealing.
Graphic Design
- This Is Wanted. Typographic motion teaser for a site that doesn't even explain what it is -- but makes me want to know (and that makes it already a success).
Industrial Design
- Dyson Stowaway. Dyson consistently makes remarkable products (we have a DC14 Animal and its actually enjoyable to vacuum) and are designed with an attention to detail and functionality as well as effectiveness and performance (much like Apple -- its not a matter of just looking good, but working well).
- The Mayback Exelero is perhaps the slickest, most elegant, luxury concept car I've seen in a long time. Its got all the power of a small, compact sports car, but the posh pampering of a Bentley. A 700 horsepower V-12 twin turbo rocket.
- The Peugot Moovie (a concept born from a Peugot international design contest) is one of the few concept "cars" that I've seen that entirely breaks the mold of a car (for some reason I think of the "IT" vehicle Mr. Garrison created on South Park). It more resembles a hamster ball than a car -- which is awesome.
Automobile Design:
- Building with ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene). Some fascinating buildings designed using ETFE as the core material. It's a flexible, strong, inexpensive, light-weight and self sustaining (self cleaning, recyclable) alternative to glass or plastic. Just look at EarthPark (in Iowa), Allianz-Arena, The Eden Project and Khan Shatyry Entertainment Centre for examples of ETFE's usage.
- Steve Holl Architects are firm based in New York City, and has some amazing work. In particular I'm drawn to the Whitney Water Purification Facility and Park -- which is reminiscent of Frank Gehry.
